South Africa's creative hub

South Africa

In South Africa’s Cape Town a group of young people come together to collaborate and share ideas.

This forum is a think tank dubbed Creative Nestlings that brings together the young to build the continent they envision.

The start up also works with young African creatives to establish their footprint in the creative economy.

Dillion Phiri, Founder and Creative Director of Creative Nestlings says, “I think a lot of young people from the disadvantaged backgrounds are starting to really be able to express themselves because of the internet culture. Now, they say you won’t let us in the door, guess what we are going to create our own doors, we are going to create our own rooms and stuff so that’s what we are seeing a lot. We are starting to see a lot more … even agencies now are starting to catch up with that, even brands are catching up that and saying okay wait instead of us going to find another kid coming from the same school, same background, if there’s a kind in the township whose doing amazing stuff, let’s work with that person, so we help create those kinds of options for those young people.”

Creative Nestlings attracts people from all walks of life. This network consists of architects, filmmakers, designers, photographers, writers, musicians and other creatives.

Through this network, they collaboratively invent, build, and launch members products, events, services or business and social ventures.

Members pay about 50 US dollars annually.
